CAMBRILS Morphology May 2003
Luis Lucio's last participation on "Selecto" and "Kumer" in
the Cambrils Morphology Competition 2003 achieved
a brilliant result.
"Selecto":
Outright winner in the Functionality Trials, second
in the final ANCCE Cup trials, level St George, Intermediate
I.
"Kumer":
Second in the Reprise KUR Intermediate I (average
69%), Third in the final ANCCE Cup trials.
Moreover,
the horses representing the Horse Breeder Rafael
Farriols, "Niscalo" and "Boldo",
ridden by Tamar Zafra, won all the trials in which
they participated.

Inclusion in Luis Lucio's
stable of the 3-year-old thoroughbred colt"
POwned and bred by Mr Alvaro Domecq, this
magnificent specimen has been selected for its
abilities in Classical Dressage. It shall begin
its sporting career under the guidance of Luis
Lucio and the famous international expert Pat
Parelli, who will initiate "Titanic" during
its first months of training using his Natural
Training techniques, "Parelli Natural Horsemanship".
An interesting and attractive project to prepare this magnificent thoroughbred
for top competition.

CDNB Royal Polo Club of Barcelona June 2003
"Kumer" and "Selecto",
both 8-year-old thoroughbreds, came first and
second respectively in the "Intermediate
I" final trial, the most difficult of those
held in this Competition.
It
should be emphasised that this difficult trial
was the debut of the horse "Selecto",
and its progress would seem to indicate a promising
future.
Adriana
and Teresa del Romero debuted on their horses "Speedy" and "Custer" in
the Newcomers and Beginners event, coming second
and third in their respective finals.

Tragic sudden death
of "Selecto"
It
is with deep regret and resignation that I must
confirm the tragic sudden death of the thoroughbred "Selecto" through
colic.
In
the early hours of Friday 18th July, at around 4
a.m., the night duty staff at the Llavaneras Equestrian
Centre noticed that "Selecto" was rather
uncomfortable, and immediately informed the person
in charge, David Agustín, who was spending
the night at the facilities, and he in turn contacted
the Emergency Veterinary services and myself.
Despite
swift detection and intervention by staff, nothing
could prevent the dramatic sudden death of "Selecto" in
just 30 minutes.
In
the morning "Selecto" was transferred to
the Veterinary Clinic at the Universidad Autónoma
de Bellaterra, where the autopsy carried out by a
team of experts confirmed, around 12:30 p.m. on Friday
18th, that death had clearly come about due to irreversible
colic.
I
wish to take the opportunity to express my sincere
gratitude to all those who collaborated during those
tragic hours in the difficult task of fighting against
the impossible: the staff at the Llavaneras Equestrian
Centre for their diligence and speed in handling
the problem, David Agustín for his efficiency
and dedication, Pedro Truño for helping with
the transfer to the Clinic, Selecto's vets (Román,
Marjo and Jesús), Natalia who came to assist
with the autopsy, Luis Monreal for his collaboration
and support, and Dolors Fontdevila and all the team
at the Necropsy Unit of the Faculty of Veterinary
Surgery at the Universidad Autónoma de Bellaterra,
whose report we expect to receive shortly.
“ Selecto” had
a brilliant career through success as a Stallion
with its Horse Breeder, magnificent results in Morphology
Competitions, and leading positions in Classical
Dressage events.
Following
its debut in international competition during the
last Sunshine Tour 2003, over the last two months
it had come first in the adult Stallion Section and
outright Winner of Functionality in the ANCCE Competition,
Cambrils 2003, and had just received average scores
of 69% in National Dressage trails, level St. George
/ Intermediate I, such as at the CDNB held recently
at the Open Sports Club in Barcelona.
All
losses are painful, but I have to recognise that
the morphological and functional characteristics
of "Selecto", the expectations we had placed
on its sporting career, its extraordinary character
and beauty, its sensibility, and the suddenness of
its death, make me sad beyond limits, something I
wish to transmit to all of you through these lines.
Finally
I would like to offer my support in these difficult
moments to its owner Jordi Castellá, and thank
him for the trust he has always put in me.
“ Selecto”,
thank you for the wonderful moments you gave us,
it will be difficult for us to forget you.
